to ensure it is appropriate.
Biffa plug-in charge points may be used to charge vehicles; however, employees are advised
to plan their journey's appropriately to ensure their vehicle has the right amount of charge for
the entire journey.
4.4 Smoking
Under Biffa's Smoke-Free Working Environment Policy and Procedure, all company car users
must ensure their cars are always smoke-free, including for private use, outside working
hours.
The appropriate disciplinary procedures will be followed if employees do not comply with this.
4.5 Driver's Health
Employees must not use a company vehicle unless they are in a fit and able condition to
drive. If any medical condition is known that may impede their ability to drive, as determined
by the Road Traffic Act 1988, employees must inform their line manager immediately. If an
employee is taking any prescription drugs to treat a medical condition, they are responsible
for checking with their GP that they are safe to drive under that medication.
4.6 Road Worthy Condition
Employees are responsible for ensuring that any company car or private car used for
business mileage is in a mechanically roadworthy condition. Specifically, employees must
ensure that:
• All exterior lights are clean and in working order.
• Interior and exterior mirrors are in good condition.
• The windscreen is in good condition, wash/wipe system is working properly, and the
reservoir is full.
• All brakes are working properly.
• All tyres are in good condition and above the minimum tread depth of 1.6mm.
• The speedometer and horn are working properly.
• Seatbelts are working properly.
• Registration plates are visible.
